Oliver Scott

Oliver Scott a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer, joined The Gap Band in 1979. His musical genius helped shape the group’s defining sound across multiple landmark albums, including The Gap Band II (1980), III (1981), IV(1982), V (1983), VI (1984), and VII (1985). During this period, Oliver contributed trombone, keyboards, and background vocals, while also co-writing some of the band’s most beloved songs — “Yearning for Your Love,” “The Way,” “Nothing Comes to Sleepers,” and “Where Are We Going,” the latter earning a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Performance. His songwriting and arrangements helped define the lush harmonies and dynamic grooves that made The Gap Band an international force in funk and soul.

Roman Johnson
Keyboard, Producer, Arranger, Background

Roman Johnson entered the lineup around 1983, serving as keyboardist, songwriter, and producer during the band’s later years. He co-wrote “Wednesday Lover,” one of the standout tracks from Gap Band 8 (1986), which remains a fan favorite and testament to his songwriting mastery. Roman’s role as musical director and arranger during The Gap Band’s touring years helped preserve the group’s signature live energy and world-class stage presence.

Billy Young
Keyboard, Songwriter, Producer

Billy Young, who joined The Gap Band in the early 1980s, contributed his talents as a keyboardist, vocalist, and arranger on multiple gold and platinum releases, including Gap Band IV, V, VI, and VII. His creative touch brought depth and sophistication to the band’s sound — from the smooth funk rhythms to the soulful ballads — elevating both the recordings and live performances that cemented the band’s legendary reputation.
